Appreciation of admins through delegation of control
An anecdotal story of how one company showed appreciation for secretaries and admins
In honor of Administrative Professional’s Day (Secretaries Day or Admin Day), I wanted to share an experience I had while talking to one of our customer’s recently. It is after all, these very important people we entrust to execute on the tasks of executives in every type of business.
While we know that GroupID Automate from Imanami solves all kinds of problems for the IT professional through the automation of group lifecycle, group membership, and more. We also find that in many cases, the IT professional cannot always automate everything. For that which cannot be automated, delegation is key.
For some things, it is actually these people we are celebrating (admins, secretaries, administrative assistants) that are working on behalf of the business movers and shakers to get things done. It is these critical workers that need to be empowered to perform their job. Just like the IT workers, they do not want to be the bottleneck for mission critical needs for changes. Delegating authority in a risk-free manor is key to productivity while ensuring security.
GroupID Self-Service from Imanami solves this problem.
This particular customer that I was speaking with cited that internally, the greatest number of users for delegated group management came from these “admins”. They are professional workers without any technical administrative credentials but from whom would be deciding on changes in the directory. It is from these that requests for adds, removes, and changes were funneled within specific business groups. They were the real gate keeper directly or on behalf of the management within the department or line of business in which they worked in which these decisions needed to be made.
They cleverly leveraged the delegated nature of GroupID Self-Service to allow these celebrated workers to execute quickly on changes that are necessary on a daily basis. They did so with confidence because the GroupID Self-Service solution grants only the rights that the IT admin confers. Then, each action is recorded in a log for later auditing if necessary. When a specific action may be more sensitive, work flow was implemented in such a way that approval was required by another party.
The delight was evident… they had achieved what all of us want in our business…. What they could not automate was delegated. That delegation was safe, secure, and tracked. What a bunch of happy IT workers they were. And on this day of Administrative Professional’s Day, I am told they were in paradise too. They could get their business needs taken care of without any dependency on others.
Want to show appreciation to your admins, secretaries, etc? Delegate!
