The best way to show the power of GroupID’s Active Directory provisioning is to demonstrate it in action. When at trade shows, we’ve found an interesting way to show the ease and power of Active Directory provisioning to attendees by using their own identity data. When they swipe their badge, we provision them as Active Directory users. But we don’t stop there because provisioning shouldn’t stop there. After you get a Active Directory user account, you have to be able to do something, so we put you in Active Directory security groups and distribution lists.
Here’s the process:
- swipe your badge
- GroupID synchronize reads the database from the badge system and creates an Active Directoy user account, populating a few attributes that are in the DB
- GroupID Automate reads those attributes in Active Directory and dynamically adds you to Active Directory groups based on your title and location
- You go into GroupID self-service, confirm your identity information and group memberships within seconds of having been “swiped”
- At this point, we usually encourage you to move to another state or department and watch how your group memberships change dynamically
- Just like that, boom presto, you are provisioned and have accurate security group and distribution list memberships. Dynamically and automatically.
I talked about this a bit with TEC’s roaming blogger. If you want to see how it’s done, come by our booth at TechEd in New Orleans in June. Or feel free to request a personalized demonstration of GroupID.
Just don’t do it the old fashioned way demonstrated below!
