Jackson Shaw wrote an amusing but oh-too-true story about a user who left his company, came back two years later and STILL had an Active Directory user account. In fact, this happened to me with an old employer. There is nothing worse than seeing all the emails that customers had sent over the previous two years while you were away working elsewhere.
We have recently had a spate of interesting examples through our followup calls to new leads. Three times in the last month, Pat (lead gen guy) has called somebody after having exchanged emails with them only to have the receptionist answer that the person no longer works there. But they had just communicated with us using your company’s email!
Luckily, we sell an Active Directory user deprovisioning software so we were able to offer our help with that situation. Unfortunately anybody who finds this blog already knows how important it is to automate deprovisioning but it would be nice to have one person read either Jackson’s post or this one and take action to solve this very solvable security hole.
