I follow Twitter to see what people are saying and tweeting about Active Directory. Sometimes it’s educational, sometimes it’s hysterical and sometimes it’s both.
Ron Fischer (@ronzobot) recently had one of my favorite Active Directory tweets to date. He keenly observed, “You’re not really an employee until Active Directory says so…”
Like all great tweets, it’s beautiful in its truth, and in its simplicity.
Let’s face it, until you are correctly in Active Directory you are an employee only in as much as you are getting paid to be there. You probably (hopefully?) can’t log in. You can’t access email, or many of the systems and resources that you need to perform even the very basic functions of your job. Heck, if your access and control system is tied to Active Directory, you can’t even get into the building!
Or, as @eavangel so eloquently tweeted. “First day over. Completely boring and couldn’t do anything cause my laptop isn’t in the active directory yet…”
In hard costs, some organization just lost a day’s salary. But the soft costs can be much higher. This person probably doesn’t have the greatest first impression of his new employer, and he just told all his friends about it.
So, are you getting your new hires into Active Directory and making them employees? Or, are they just sitting at their desk wasting time on Twitter?
