Change in Active Directory is a constant never ending thing. That’s my quote, not very literary, but let me temper it with these classics:
- “It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today.” –Isaac Asimov
- “There is nothing permanent except change.” – Heraclitus
- “When it’s time to change, you’ve got to rearrange who you are into what you’re gonna be.” –Brady Bunch
A lot has been written on the topic of change and for good reason. It has always been a constant (see Heraclitus circa 500 BC) all the way through modern times (if you call the Brady Bunch modern). It is even more prevalent in today’s fast paced constantly shifting IT environments.
IT is now being asked to keep up with employee movement (estimated 30% internal turnover yearly) on a real-time basis. No longer is it OK to update employee accounts and access within weeks, it should happen right now.
If an employee moves from operations to sales, their Active Directory account has to reflect everyting immediately. Not just for the Global Address List (GAL) but for permissions and access. If they moved from operations to sales, you sure don’t want them to have access to the folder that houses the database that runs the commissions system calculations. That change needs to be real time.
Today, I’ve been preparing a demo that focuses on these sorts of business problems and how to solve them. And it is remarkably simple. You provision Active Directory accounts in real time. You update Active Directory group memberships in real time. You synchronize all changes in HR and other systems directly into Active Directory in real time. GroupID does all of this and really solves the “constant change” problem.
Check out our YouTube demos of some of these solutions or arrange for a demonstration of how we can help you manage change.
